Canada and Quebec Affiliates

Like unions in the
United States and Europe, Quebec and other Canadian unions are undergoing a
period of change, as Canadian society experiences an upsurge of conservatism
and individualism.
The values of
mutual aid and the distribution of wealth don’t fit the bill, and economic
difficulties have become a catch-all justification for re-visiting social
gains.
We will not give
up. More than ever, unions must be the voice of opposition. We must question
the decisions of our governments, which are far too quick to choose budget
restrictions over the people’s well-being.
First, we need to
get closer to our members and let them know what we are doing. For this reason,
we must return to the source, go to our members, take the time to meet with
them at work, to hear their ideas and opinions, and to discuss what they expect
of us.
With this in mind,
the member organizations of the Canadian Labour Congress are joining forces to
mount a huge mobilization campaign entitled "Together fairness

We will do
everything we can to promote a modern and up-to-date form of unionism and to
establish a clear vision of the society we want to see. We will take every
opportunity–training for spokespersons and multiplying agents, province-wide
tours, theme days–to get people talking about the union movement and about the
men and women that make it what it is.
Les syndicats canadiens et québécois, à l'instar des mouvements
américain et européen, traversent une période de transformation, alors que la
société canadienne vit une montée du conservatisme et de l'individualisme.
Les valeurs d'entraide et de partage de la richesse n'ont pas la cote,
et les difficultés économiques sont devenues une justification universelle pour
remettre en question les acquis sociaux.
Dans ce contexte, nous ne baissons pas les bras. Plus que jamais, les
syndicats doivent demeurer la voix de la contrepartie. Il faut remettre en
question les choix de ceux qui nous gouvernent, qui choisissent trop rapidement
la rigueur budgétaire au détriment des personnes.
Il faut d'abord se rapprocher de nos membres, pour les informer de nos
actions. Pour y arriver, il faut revenir aux sources, aller vers eux, en
prenant le temps de les rencontrer au travail, d'entendre leurs idées et leurs
opinions, et de discuter de ce qu'ils attendent de nous.
C'est dans cet état d'esprit que les syndicats membres du Congrès du
travail du Canada s'unissent et travaillent à l'élaboration d'une vaste
campagne de mobilisation, intitulée « Ensemble, pour un monde plus

Nous mettrons tout en œuvre pour promouvoir un syndicalisme moderne et renouvelé
et pour développer une vision claire de la société que nous voulons. Formation
de porte-parole et d'agents multiplicateurs, tournées à la grandeur du
territoire, journées de réflexion thématiques, tous les moyens sont bons pour
faire parler non seulement du mouvement syndical, mais surtout des femmes et
des hommes qui le composent.
